How to treat dry skin

Dry skin represents one of the most common skin disorders in the population.

Even though it is not a scientifically correct denomination, the expression “dry skin” expresses very well the peculiarities of this problem and the sensations it transmits. In fact, we define dry skin as skin that looks rather thin, not very elastic, flaky and dehydrated. The color of this skin is usually light and rather dull, while the touch is dry, with an irregular texture almost as if it were rough. Dry skin shows a heightened sensitivity and shows early signs of aging, presenting wrinkles even at a young age. This problem presents different degrees of severity ranging from a dryness that shows a slight desquamation to a severe xerosis of the skin with marked expression lines.

Skin can be dry because it is dehydrated and therefore has a water deficit that does not allow to protect the skin from external agents, in this case the face appears shiny and with dilated pores. However, there is a dry alipidic skin that lacks the correct supply of lipids due to an insufficient sebaceous secretion. This deficiency makes the skin sensitive and particularly fragile, which suffers from the signs of aging. These factors often coexist and for a correct evaluation of the type of facial skin it is appropriate to perform a precise test that is able to measure the various parameters.
